Rhabdomyosarcoma

Alice was diagnosed with rhabdomyosarcoma in March 2015, aged 3. She battled the disease for nearly five years. She responded well to frontline treatment involving chemotherapy and proton radiation lasting 20 months, with treatment in the US and the UK. Three years after diagnosis the cancer grew back. Alice had relapse chemotherapy and we self-funded a treatment called AMORE in Amsterdam. Sadly, a year later, the cancer returned in a new location. She died two months later on 8th October 2019 aged 7.

Art was a form of therapy for Alice both during hospital stays and at home. She would draw expressive pictures and create slogans. The art she drew related to hair loss which she found so upsetting especially as she got older. She would draw images of herself with hair down to the ground and would portray her sister with much shorter hair. Art felt like a form of creative communication between Alice and I, helping me understand more about how she felt and saw life during her cancer experience.
