Paul Allender - Sheffield

ARTIST

I am a full-time painter based in Sheffield. Most of my work is based on my life experiences. I was an academic in social sciences for 20 years before returning to my earlier love of art.

For me, the word HOPE, and its constituent letters, unlike many words, actually visually signify the emotion. And this is even more the case now I have painted it.

Hope is very important to me and it sometimes seems quite fragile. The current global political, social and medical situations contribute to this fragility.

However, hope is as important as it has ever been and it does and will prevail, despite difficult and sometimes almost impossible scenarios. The climate crisis for example.

At a personal level, I have never been more optimistic. My painting is going very well and more people are seeing it than ever. And a new found spirituality has opened up lots of possibilities for me. Life is sweet!
