Rhabdomyosarcoma

Ruby was diagnosed with Stage 4 Alveolar Rhabdomyosarcoma when she was 4 years old. At the point of diagnosis she was unable to stand or walk due to a tumour wrapping around her spinal cord. Once on treatment, the tumours quickly melted away and Ruby gradually learned to walk again. Following frontline treatment, Ruby’s cancer was in remission. It wasn’t to last though. She relapsed within a few months and died less than 12 months later, two weeks before her 7th birthday.

Ruby absolutely loved art and created a huge catalogue of pieces while at nursery. We displayed everything in her playroom. Collages, prints, paintings, pencil drawings, decorated masks, all sorts. There was a lot of glitter! She would regularly paint, draw and colour in at home too and enjoyed lots of creative time while in hospital, often involving lots of glue.
